Madras fabric has made a lasting impact on global fashion.
Originating in Chennai, India (previously known as Madras) this lightweight, handwoven cotton is known for its colorful plaid patterns and breathable texture—perfect for warm climates. Introduced to Western markets during colonial times, it gained popularity in mid-20th century America, especially through the Ivy League and preppy styles of the 1960s. Its distinctive "bleeding" colors became a signature trait, symbolizing authenticity and relaxed summer style.
Today, Madras remains a favorite in both traditional and contemporary fashion, embraced by designers around the world. It stands as a timeless example of how Indian craftsmanship seamlessly blends with global fashion trends.

Weaving is the process of interlacing two sets of yarns—warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal)—to produce fabric. This is typically done on a loom, a frame or machine that holds the warp threads under tension, allowing the weft to be threaded back and forth.
Types of Weaves:
HFT specializes in several basic types of weaves, each resulting in unique textures and appearances:
• Plain weave: The simplest, with a straightforward over-and-under pattern that creates a strong, balanced fabric.
• Twill weave: Recognizable by its diagonal lines, as seen in denim.
• Satin weave: Produces a smooth, lustrous surface due to the longer “floats” of the yarn.
• Specialty weaves: Techniques like basketweave, Jacquard and Dobby allow for more intricate designs and textures.
Yarn & Texture Variety:
• A rich selection of fancy yarns, including Melanges, Slubs, Neps, and more.
• Versatile fabric types such as Flannel, Seersucker, Crepe, Voile, Grindle, Multi-count, and Space-dyed fabrics.
We at HFT offer a range of advanced fabric finishing techniques:
• Peach Finish: A light brushing of the fabric surface gives it a soft, suede-like feel, enhancing comfort and aesthetics.
• Moisture Management: Enhances fabric breathability by wicking sweat away from the body to keep the wearer dry and comfortable; commonly used in sportswear.
• Easy to Iron (ETI): Reduces wrinkles and creases, making fabrics quicker and easier to iron; improves shape retention after washing for greater convenience.
• Stain Guard: Adds a protective layer to fabrics, repelling oil and water-based stains, making garments easier to clean and maintain.
• Water Repellent: Applies a surface coating that causes water to bead and roll off; ideal for outerwear and light rain gear while allowing fabric to remain breathable.
• Enzyme Wash: Uses natural enzymes to soften fabrics, reduce pilling, and create a gently worn-in look, often applied to denim and casual wear.
• Mercerising: A chemical treatment (usually for cotton) that boosts luster, strength, dye absorption, and gives fabric a silk-like sheen.
We offer a range of fabric packaging solutions tailored to each customer needs:
• Roll Packing: Bulk fabric rolled for easy handling and cutting—great for production.
• Double Folded: Compact format for efficient stacking and retail display.
• Fat Quarters: Pre-cut fabric (approx. 18” × 22”) ideal for quilting and crafts.
• Pre-Cut Bundles: Ready-to-use fabric squares (4”, 5”, 6”, etc.) for DIY projects.
• Customized Packing: Packaging as per customer requirements, suitable for private labels or promotions.
• Embroidery Packaging: Designed for safely showcasing embroidered textiles.
• Jelly Roll Packaging: Rolled pre-cut strips (typically 2.5” wide) popular for coordinated quilting sets.
These value-added options offer better presentation, convenience, and retail readiness for all types of fabric needs.
